Shooting Time: On our marsh shooting hours are from the legal starting time till noon except opening day and the last day of the season, when you may hunt till the legal closing. Blind Assignments: See the blind rotation chart. Maximum number of guns per blind is 3. Boats: Our boats are spacious wide bottom16 footers equiped with mud motor. Boats are first come first served, except for boats previously reserved (see below). Reserved Boats: If you are going to be hunting several days in a row you may reserve a boat by leaving prominently displayed decoys or other gear with your name on it, in the boat. Boat Operation & Safety: Boat operators are responsible for safety equipment in their boats. In the 14 foot boats you must have running lights and a life jacket for each occupant, in addition each16 ft boat must have at least one throwable Type IV PFD – Buoyant cushion or ring buoy. Check your boat, there are spares in the Greenheads trailer. Please be sure to wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved life preserver when your boat is under way. And, always attach the motor-shut-off lanyard to yourself -- We care about your safety! Decoys: On the marsh, members are expected to provide there own decoys. At blind 7, on the lake, Best Day will keep some decoys, so you don’t have to carry so many, please store them properly when you’re through. If you are sure you will be hunting the next day, you may leave your decoys in the boat, but don’t cover them with fast grass or other camo. Please do not take boats with other members decoys in them. Decoys for blind #7: There are decoys kept at the Blind Duck Inn. Please see Steve for the combination to the lock. Channels and routes: Please respect your fellow hunters by using the standardized routes. Guests: There are no restrictions on guests, providing there are seats available in your assigned blind - arrange this with your blind-mates. It is also permitted to exchange blinds with other members. There must always be a member present in each blind of hunters – it is not permitted to lend out an entire blind to non-members. Jump Shooting: In the interest of safety and equity, boat hunting and jump shooting are not permitted. Hunting is from assigned blinds, except that you may take birds incidental to setting and retrieving decoys etc., insofar as it is permitted by law.
Changes for This Season
New Blind at 7: We have leased the Blind Duck Inn to some guys from our Greenheads club. They have consented to allow us to keep the blinds that we had borrowed from the BDI -- blinds 5, 6, and 7 – in the Greenheads rotation. In return, we have added a blind 7B next to #7 for their use. These two blinds are set up to hunt the same decoys. But, the point is usually best hunted with a raft of 50 to a 200 decoys, and six guys will be better able to handle all those decoys. And, this arrangement keeps blinds 5, 6, and 7 in the Greenheads rotation. Channels: Being able to plan the channels before green up was a tremendous help. There are two main channels, just look for the white stakes. As you stand on the end of the main dock and look out towards the Blind Duck Inn, the channel to the right goes to blinds 5, 6 and 7, the channel to the left goes to blinds 2, 3, and 4, and blind 1 is just around the corner from the dock. The Bay at the Blind Duck Inn: There is a bay in front of the Blind Duck Inn that we will be using as a harbor for the 6 and 7 blinds. Do not take your boat to blind 6. We have moved some floating bogs in front off 6 for cover, please don’t knock them down. Instead, follow the white channel markers right into the harbor. There is room for three boats there, and it is only 30 yards down the dock to blind 6. Ponds and the Blind Rotataion: We got D.N.R. approval for five new ponds in the marsh and Mike Shumaker from G.M.S. Excavators brought equipment out in April to begin the ponds. Things went to hell from there. The flood delayed the project for months, and now Mike is unable to fit us in before duck season. The problem is that when we rebuilt the blinds that the flood had swept away, we figured blind 3 would go in the new pond in the north west corner of the marsh, a couple hundred yards north of blind 2. Since the pond will not be done we will only have 6 blinds plus 7B, leaving us one short for the rotation. We have managed to fit everyone into 6 blinds, so our new rotation is based on 6 blinds. |
