Best Days Afield Wisconsin Duck Hunting Club Practices

In the above picture, west is up. You can see our duck shack (at the bottom left, near the lake). From there follow the board walk southeast to blind 7, on the lake. Take the boardwalk northwest up to blind 6. It doesn't show well in this picture, but blind 5 is to the right, north, of 6. Go west from there and you can make out blind 4, on a point about half way through the marsh. Along the tree line you will find blinds 1, 2, and 3.

How Our Duck Club Works

Duck shares include boats, mud motors, blinds, and private water. The cost is $1,055 plus tax for the season.
We have 7 blinds, and each 3-man blind has 3 shares. If you take a single share, you will be assigned a blind, and you accommodate guests by trading seats with your blind mates. Your blind will rotate each day, except that you keep the same blind Monday that you had Sunday.

Shooting Time: We hunt in the mornings and rest the ducks in the afternoon, except for opening day. On our marsh shooting hours are from the legal starting time till noon except opening day and the last day of the season, when you may hunt untill the legal closing.

Blind Assignments: See the blind rotation chart. Maximum number of guns per blind is 3.

Boats: Our boats are spacious wide-bottom 16 footers equipped with mud motors. Boats are first come first served, except for those previously reserved (see below).

Reserved Boats: If you are going to be hunting several days in a row you may reserve a boat by leaving prominently displayed decoys or other gear with your name on it in the boat.

Boat Operation & Safety: Boat operators are responsible for safety equipment in their boats. In Wisconsin, 14 foot boats must have running lights and a life jacket for each occupant. In addition, each 16 ft boat must have at least one throwable Type IV PFD – buoyant cushion or ring buoy. This is your responsibility, check your boat. There are spares in the Greenhead's trailer, or ask the staff.

Please be sure to wear a U.S. Coast Guard approved life preserver when your boat is under way. And, always attach the motor-shut-off lanyard to yourself -- We care about your safety!

Decoys: On the marsh, members are expected to provide their own decoys. If you are sure you will be hunting the next day, you may leave your decoys in the boat, but don’t cover them with fast grass or other camo. Please do not take boats with other member’s decoys in them.

Decoys for blind #7: At blind 7, on the lake, we keep some communal decoys - so you don’t have to carry so many. Please store them properly when you’re through. See Steve for the combination to the lock.

Channels and routes: In so far as water levels allow, we have set a traffic pattern that will allow members to access their blinds without spoiling the hunts of other members. Please respect your fellow hunters by using the standardized routes.

Guests: There are no restrictions on guests, providing there are seats available in your assigned blind - arrange this with your blind-mates. It is also permitted to exchange blinds with other members. But, there must always be a member present in each blind of hunters – it is not permitted to lend out an entire blind to nonmembers.

Jump Shooting: In the interest of safety and equity, boat hunting and jump shooting are not permitted. Hunting is from assigned blinds, except that you may take birds incidental to setting and retrieving decoys etc., insofar as it is permitted by law.
